No actual published data on Kimber Serial numbers. They run all over the place as they appear to have held blocks of numbers for later use.
Feb 03, 2012 Kimber of Oregon Model 82 Discussion in 'The Ask the Pros & What's It Worth? Forum' started by CountryGunsmith, Mar 2, 2003. Mar 2, 2003 #1. A local dealer has a model 82 Kimber serial number 61 I think it has a 20 in. The wood is nice but nothing special.
Also each model variation had their own serial number range that more or less started at 00001 so you could conceivably have the same S/N more or less for each variation. 22 Rimfire Classic was just Numbers Custom Classic was CCxxxxx SuperAmerica was SAxxxxx S-Series was S001-500 thru S500-500 ( for the 500 in the series) with an additional 35 with other numbers 22 mag Classis was Mxxxxx SuperAmerica was SAMxxxxx and so on.22 Hornet was Hxxxxx, SAHxxxx and so on. A better indication of time frame for your rifle would be which action is has. 82, 82B, or 82C. Photos would help. There is only one person who has all the information you seek.
That person owns the rights to all Kimber of Oregon written records. He is retired and is a good friend. He has just about finished the book everyone has been anticipating for over 7 years. The book has passed the third proofreading. Pictures are all that are left to organize. (NOTE: the test fire target tags for all of the guns tested were held by another Kimberite and never returned to the proper authorities when asked for.so the knowledge of all the S/Ns is not exact).
I have a call into the author of the book to help identify your gun. Since it will be a self published book.I don't know when he will have it out. When he calls I will let everyone know the findings. The Kimber Fraternity is really small for the most part.
Many have worked for the company but few lasted more then three years.those who did know an awful lot of information that is still not mined. I can tell you that my rifle has the S/N 533XX and it was made in July of 1987. I have a non typical Kimber. Officially it is listed as a Mini Classic with a wrap checkering pattern on the forend and grip. Unofficially it also has a 18 oz trigger, island rear one leaf sight, and a banded front ramp sight. .hopefully (Pictures).from the info posted by SCEVA I'm able to identify mine as an m82(a); clearly from Oregon.and if my memory serves, this gun is ~30 years old.probably 500 rnds thru it and hardly handled after that.now, I'll try to 'attach' some pictures: *** nope.evidently i cannot post attachments *** You need to upload your pictures on a photo hosting/sharing site like Photobucket, Image Shack, Tinypic, etc. Then you link the pic by copy and pasting the IMG code into your thread.
It's really not as hard as it sounds. There's a post down in the Test forum that explains the process using Photobucket. I'll find the post for you later and link it here. In the meantime, I can post a few pics for you if you'd like. Send me a PM and I'll send you my e-mail address. The prefixes were for the factory custom models but Kimber also made custom rifles to order.
Kimber had a list of options as long as your arm. You could order one with upgraded wood, the neidner, and on and on. And the serial would be in the normal range unless you specified a special number. You could also order custom serial numbers such as a name-date combination like Mike12386 to celebrate a son born 1/23/1986.
Confusion is the name of the game with Kimber of Oregon. Interesting-the special serial numbers. The only one I knew that about is Seacamp. I found out after I rec my pistol. Id have had a special number if Id have known.
