First appearing in the Nissan Skyline and the Nissan 300ZX, the RB20DET engine was used from about 1985 until the beginning of the 1990s when a second generation RB20 engine took its place. This engine series is turbocharged to get the maximum amount of performance possible without resorting to a heavier engine block. 
With the RB20DET engine, you get a boost in acceleration and horsepower over similarly sized vehicles. This 2.0-liter, straight-six four-stroke gasoline engine also utilizes one of the first fuel-injection systems to replace carburetors in cars. This modern component atomizes fuel for more efficient delivery to the engine and eliminates the risk that came from iced up carburetors in freezing weather. Some refer to the RB20DET as a 'Red Top' engine for its red dual cam covers. The twin camshafts on this engine allow it to work as a four-stroke engine, a feature that gives it added power and the ability to run at higher speeds without overheating. The RB20DET is available among the vast inventory on eBay and makes a perfect fit for Nissan Skylines and the 300ZX sports car.
