Russian oil exports on the rise 11-10-07 From January to August, Russia exported 159.863 mm tons of oil, 4.75% more than in the same period last year, the Federal Customs Service reported. In cash terms, oil exports rose by 5.24% during the first eight months of this year to $ 69.678 bn. According to the Industry and Energy Ministry, production of oil and gas condensate grew 2.6% from January to August to 326.62 mm tons. In 2006, Russia’s oil and gas condensate output increased 2.1% to 480 mm tons, according to the Federal State Statistics Service and the Industry and Energy Ministry.

The ministry expects oil production to rise by 2.08% in 2007, to 490 mm tons. Electricity exports dropped 19.74% during the first eight months of this year, to 7.704 bn kWh. Electricity export revenue slumped 31.55% to $ 295.6 mm.

Electricity exports to the CIS stood at 1.692 bn kWh (down 30.77%) worth $ 54.7 mm (down 12.34%), and exports to other countries amounted to 8.012 bn kWh (down 16.95%) to $ 240.9 mm (down 34.7%). Russia’s natural gas exports dropped 11.9% from January to August compared with the same period last year, to 108.2 bn cm. Gas export revenue stood at $ 25.555 bn, 10.9% less than in the corresponding period of 2006.

Gas exports to the CIS dropped 14% to 12.3 bn cm, and exports to other countries edged down 11.6% to 95.9 bn cm. According to the State Statistics Agency and the Industry and Energy Ministry, production of natural gas in Russia dropped 0.9% from January to August compared with the same period last year to 429 bn cm, with Gazprom’s output down 0.4% at 362.17 bn cm. In 2006, production of natural gas in Russia increased by 2.4% to more than 656 bn cm. The ministry expects gas output to rise by 1.33% this year, to 665 bn cm.

In late May 2007, Gazprom and independent gas producers agreed to reduce gas production by up to 8% due to the unusually warm winter of 2007-2008. The restriction will apply until the third quarter of this year. Gazprom revised its gas production targets accordingly, from 561 to 557 bn cm, further reducing it later to 551 bn cm.
